Mary Ann Moore (May)

We received confirmation of Alice's death from her Sister, Annette Throop Roddy (OHHS Class of 1965). Annette relayed the following information to be shared with Alice's classmates. Annette also asked us to send an email to her of any comments and remembrances of Alice posted to this website and we will do that.  Please add your comments; we know Annette would appreciate them.

From Annette Throop Roddy (OHHS Class of 1965) Alice's Sister:

"Alice passed away on November 25, 1997, of breast cancer at Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Virginia, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. She was 54 years old.   The cancer was caught too late and had spread to her bones and liver.  Actually, she went to have a bone marrow transplant done and died on the table. The doctor did CPR for about 45 minutes but could not revive her. She had sent me a letter about 4 days before her procedure (and sent others letters as well) so I believe in my heart she knew she was not going to pull through the transplant.

At the time of her death Alice was living in Gaithersburg, Maryland.  She had 5 children, four girls and one boy.  Several years before her death she was divorced from Fred Ensign and she never remarried. At the time of her death she was one course away from a degree in graphic arts from George Washington University.  She is buried not far from my parents in Washington National Cemetery, Suitland, Maryland.

She, of course, was my older sister and I knew she was very smart and very pretty. She had lots of boyfriends-that is the way I remember.  At your reunion I would appreciate it if members could write "how they remembered Alice".  It would be comforting for me to know how my sister was remembered by her classmates."

I am very saddened to hear of Alice's death but know she is in a better place.  She was a good friend of mine in school.  Patricia Purks Mackne

We were had several classes together and she was a lovely lady.  Alice usually had a smile for every one and a very kind heart.  I am so sorry for your loss.  Mary Anita Griffin
