Mary Ann Moore (May)

Mary Ann Moore (May)

Mary Ann May, age 81, joined the heavenly angels on February 1, 2025 at her home surrounded by her family in Jeffersonton, VA.

Dearly beloved wife of Philip Thomas May, Jr. (Tom), Mary Ann was born on May 12, 1943, the daughter of Mary Louise Moore and George Thomas Moore.

Mary Ann attended Takoma Park Elementary School and Takoma Park Junior High and then moved to Oxon Hill, Maryland and graduated from Oxon Hill High School in 1961.  She graduated from the University of Maryland in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics Education and earned a Masters equivalency with courses from the University of Maryland, Trinity College and Catholic University. On July 10, 1965, she and Tom were married in Washington, DC. Mary Ann taught Home Economics in junior high and high schools throughout Maryland.

Subsequently, she worked for 17 years with the Prince Georges County Board of Education.  She was responsible for the Student Built House Project Interior Design Program in coordination with 20 plus High Schools in Prince Georges County.  A house was built each year by the Vocational Technology Students, decorated and furnished by Interior Design Students and then sold in order to fund the next year’s project.  She wrote the curriculum for this project and designed projects for classroom curriculums.  She was a talented teacher not only imparting important life skills but connected with and inspired her students on a personal level.

After retiring in 1998 and moving to Jeffersonton, Virginia she was active in the Cedar Run Garden Club and became an exceptional flower show designer and subsequently a National Garden Club accredited flower show judge. She brought beautiful ideas to life and was sought out by garden clubs across the State to teach design techniques.  She served in many officer positions in the Shenandoah District and the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs and was past President of the Shenandoah Designers Guild and the Cedar Run Garden Club.

Mary Ann loved her family fiercely and was a kind, caring, compassionate, and selfless wife, mother, grandmother and loyal friend to many.  She always said that her greatest accomplishment was having two wonderful kids, Kelley May (deceased) and Abbey May and four beautiful grandkids to shower her love upon, Katelyn May, Joseph May, Morgan Aggour-May and Samantha Aggour-May who all loved their Gramma and Meemaw dearly!

She and Tom had a wonderful marriage and life together for over 59 years.
