"True elegance" is how I would have described Darlene Chatman in high school. My heart-felt sympathies are extended to her family and all of the Chatmans, whom I knew in high school.

Darlene was a Majorette with me when we were in High School.  She was a wonderful addition to our squad.  As a friend, she was always kind, and willing help in anyway possible.  Darlene was a beautiful person; inside and out.  She was absolutely radiant at our 40th Reunion.  May God keep her in his care, and bless her children.

Darlene was one of those people who always looked totally finished and coordinated without seeming to be aware.  I wasn't one of her closest friends--more like a typical classmate--but she was always very gracious anytime we chatted briefly.  She will always seem to me to have had an inner glow, and represented to me the epitome of a "lady"--in the   the best sense of the word! One of my favorite Pictures! Darleen and Jean Brown have been my special friends since we met. Darleen and I used to hang out together years ago. As young teens I road my bike to her house on Southern Ave, got beat up by her brothers, (all in fun), fed by her mother, and felt the love from all her family. Darleen and I kept in touch all these years. She was my shoulder to lean on and I was hers. We would spend time talking in person, on the phone, or by email. Our conversations always started with "I was thinking of you" and ended with "Love Ya". She made me promise never to tell how sick she was or what her illness was about. About three weeks before her death she stopped emailing me. I received a email from her son Michael that she had died. The time I spent with Darleen was always a  joy and I will miss her, but I have great memories of being "Best Buddies" for a life time. God bless you Darleen and "Love Ya"  Bob

Darlene was the perfect example of a lady.  In high school she set the standard for how a young lady should dress; but more than her 'style" was her kindness to her classmates.  We were not close friends, but I had many classes with Darlene and she always had a smile and a kind remark.  I will always be grateful she was a part of my younger life.  Mary Anita Griffin
