Elaine Heidenreich Meade

I married and moved to Woodbridge, VA. where I was a stay at home Mom for 12 years, until my youngest son started school. Then, I became a permanent substitute teacher with Prince William County Public Schools (PWCPS) teaching at the same school my son attended (he hated that, I knew way too much). All was well, until tragedy hit our family in 1985 when my husband, Joe passed away at age 43 from Lung Cancer. Suddenly, I became the breadwinner of the family and needed a more substantial salary. I remained with PWCPS but quit teaching and went into Administration where I remained until my retirement in 2003. Then, I moved to Fredericksburg, VA. to be near my oldest son's family, where I've been traveling a lot, spoiling my grandsons, and enjoying a simple life, I'm blessed.

I have so many wonderful memories of OHHS, where do I begin? Remember the sock Hops in the Gym? I have a newspaper article, that appeared in The Evening Star, dated Friday, May 19, 1961 Titled: "School of the Week OXON HILL". It's a wonderful article, too lengthy to write here, it contains lots of news about the school. A Bit of Trivia: The cost to build OHHS was $2,400,000, The capacity was 1400, and it opened in November, 1959 with a new addition opening in in November, 1960. We were the second class to graduate from OHHS. The article also had a picture of the school with the Student Council officers pictured in front of the school; Walter Weedman, Karen Kendall, Cathy Clay and Myself. The article brings back so many nostalgic memories about OHHS, I'll send it to Mary Ann, maybe it can be put in the "50th Reunion Memory Book".
